Living in Virginia

This picture was taken last year by a friend. He was just playing around with his camera, but I liked this picture even if it was on an angle.

Hi, I have just moved to Richmond, VA and am settling in here now. I love Richmond, a town full of history and beauty. For all it has grown it still has that southern charm.
I now have a house with a nice big yard. So of course I am going to try my hand at Gardening. I have always wanted to have a nice garden. And to grow Vegetables and fruit now. I have planted several grape vines, a fig tree, a mulberry and 2 purple leafed sand cherries. I hope to be reaping a nice crop of fruit and making lots of preserves and pies. I also want to grow tomatoes and squash, basil, parsley, lettuce and more. I will add pictures as my garden starts to grow.

This is King of Hearts. I named him that for the white heart on his forehead. He loves our new home too. He has a nice yard to play in and squirrels to chase. Which he loves to do. Though he never tries to catch them...he wouldn't know what to do if he did. But he loves the game of chasing them. Funny part is, he will sit really still and just watch the birds as they come to the feeders and stuff. Even when they land on the ground. He just sits and watches them. It is really cute.

The Living Tree!

I will have a picture of my dogwood tree soon. It is so large and spread out like a canopy. So I hung several bird feeders, along with putting seeds on the branches and just watch the show with all the birds and squirrels. It is so pretty. I can't wait for the spring to see the tree in bloom and for all the nests that I am sure it will be filled with. I want to hang several nesting boxes too.
So far I have European Starlings, Cardinals, Purple Finches, House Finches, Blue Jays and Crows. Along with a Downy Woodpecker and a Hawk that landed one morning. I sat staring at that Hawk for a few minutes as he bounced around the tree. Suddenly a squirrel ran up the tree and flung himself right into the hawk, knocking it off it's perch and the hawk flew off. I had never seen such a foolhardy act before. I just sat here laughing. I guess that squirrel didn't care where on the food chain he stood, he was going to have the seed bell I had hung the night before all to himself. It was quite a sight.
